Info

A massive earthquake and tsunami struck northern Japan on March 11, 2011 causing extensive damage and triggering the worst nuclear crisis since the Chernobyl disaster. 19,000 people died from the earthquake and tsunami, while up to 200,000 inhabitants were displaced from areas surrounding the Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Plant after three of its reactors suffered meltdowns and subsequent explosions released radioactive material into the air and water. I arrived in Japan one day after the earthquake and documented the aftermath for Stern Magazine and the Neue Zürcher Zeitung. In the following years I visited and photographed Fukushima repeatedly.
